The Indian Association Santiago remembers with gratitude the members whose leadership and service helped strengthen the Indian community in Chile.
Mr. Ashok Mohandas Jadhwani
Former President – Indian Association Santiago (IAS), 2010–2013
Mr. Ashok Mohandas Jadhwani served as President of IAS from 2010 to 2013, during the tenure of H.E. Mr. Pradeep Kapur, former Ambassador of India to Chile.
During his presidency, IAS organized Holi, South Indian gatherings, Mata Jagran, Dandiya, and Diwali celebrations. A major highlight was the Diwali Ball at Club Español, attended by approximately 180 guests.
His presidency strengthened unity and cultural participation within the Indian community in Chile.
Mr. Vijay Mansukhani
Mr. Vijay Mansukhani served the Indian Association in Iquique and Santiago from 1997 to 2014 as Joint Secretary, Social Secretary, Vice President, and President.
One of the youngest elected leaders of his time, he was known for his dedication, integrity, and ability to bring the community together. His contribution remains an important part of the history of the Indian community in Chile.
Mr. Suresh B. Mayani
Former Vice President – Indian Association Santiago (IAS)
Mr. Suresh B. Mayani served as Vice President of IAS and contributed to the growth and unity of the Indian community in Chile.
Born in Punta Arenas to the late Bharatmal and Bina Mayani, his Indian heritage and Chilean roots enabled him to connect both cultures.
He helped organize Diwali Balls and India’s Independence Day celebrations while strengthening cooperation with the Embassy of India and Chilean society.
Mr. Naresh Kishinchand Punjabi
Former Social Secretary – Approximately 10 years of service
Mr. Naresh Kishinchand Punjabi served as Social Secretary of IAS for approximately 10 years.
He promoted Indian culture and traditions through Holi, Dandiya, Cheti Chand, and Diwali celebrations. His wife, Mrs. Diya Punjabi, also contributed through ticket sales and event decoration.
Their dedication enriched the cultural life of the Indian community in Chile.
Mr. Lal Purshottam Melwani
Former President – Indian Association Santiago (IAS)
Mr. Lal Purshottam Melwani served as President of IAS from 2009–2011, Vice President from 2011–2013, and Director from 2014–2015.
Following the 2010 Chile earthquake and tsunami, he worked closely with the Embassy of India and H.E. Ambassador Pradeep Kapur to support affected communities through donations and essential supplies.
He also contributed to early efforts toward establishing a Hindu Temple in Santiago and actively supported diplomatic visits and official delegations from India.
During his leadership, IAS organized several successful cultural and community events, including Children’s Day, Mother’s Day, bingo gatherings, and two memorable Diwali Balls, helping strengthen unity within the Indian community in Chile.
Former IAS Committee Member
Mr. Haresh Kanayalal Dharmdasani, affectionately known in the community as Don Harry, served IAS as Social Secretary and Director.
He began celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi at his home in Iquique and continued this tradition after moving to Santiago, warmly opening his home each year to the Indian community.
He is also well known for Don Harry, his Indian grocery store, which has helped the community access Indian food products and ingredients in Chile.
IAS sincerely appreciates his service, generosity, and contribution to the Indian community.
Former Secretary – Indian Association Santiago (IAS)
Mr. Manu Manwani served as Secretary of the Indian Association Santiago (IAS) with great dedication and commitment.
He worked actively in organizing cultural and community events. One of the memorable events during his service was the Grand Bingo held at Hotel Majestic, which attracted strong community participation. The highlight of the event was an exciting grand prize — a brand-new car (0 km).
IAS sincerely appreciates Mr. Manu Manwani for his valuable service and contribution to the Indian community in Chile.
Former President – Indian Association Santiago (IAS)
Mr. Manoj Mohandas Parwani dedicated approximately 20 years of service to the Indian Association Santiago and the Indian community in Chile, beginning around 2006. to 2025
During his long association with IAS, he served as President for 2 years, Social Secretary for 2 years, Secretary for 2 years, and Treasurer for 14 years.
Known for his kindness, respect, honesty, and strong sense of responsibility, Manoj always placed the interests of the community first. During his many years as Treasurer, there were occasions when he personally covered community expenses from his own pocket to support IAS activities.
His dedication, generosity, and selfless service made him a great example of commitment to the Indian community in Chile. His valuable contribution to IAS will always be remembered with gratitude and respect.
Former Committee Member – Indian Association Santiago (IAS)
Mr. Nikhil Jain served the Indian community in Chile through the Indian Association Santiago (IAS) from 2018 until mid-2026.
During his years of service, he held important positions including Social Secretary, Secretary, and Vice President. With his professional experience in accounting and auditing, he also made a valuable contribution by reviewing and supporting the Association’s financial accounts.
His dedication, responsibility, and excellent service to IAS and the Indian community are sincerely appreciated.
For personal reasons, Mr. Jain later relocated to the United States. IAS gratefully recognizes his many years of commitment and contribution to the community.
